Schedule of activities for
Executive War College
To help you plan to get the most from your Executive War College experience, the table below provides you with the schedule of activities for each day. And don’t forget the high-energy networking events at the close of each day.
Optimize your Learning, Networking, and Confidence
Management Master Classes and Benefactor Sessions
At the start of each morning on Tuesday and Wednesday are management master class sessions. These presentations are presented by subject matter experts and structured to provide advanced learning and insights. Each session provides actionable intelligence and methods for attendees. Examples from last year’s conference included: core lab automation/work flow by the expert who installs these systems in 50 or more labs annually for a major IVD manufacturer; use of real-time analytics to improve test turnaroundtime and cut costs by a major lab in the Southwest US; and best practices in revenue cycle management (RCM) by a national RCM vendor.
General Session Presentations
Tuesday and Wednesday mornings conclude with top-flight keynote speakers in plenary sessions. Topics for Tuesday’s plenary session address major trends in healthcare and the clinical laboratory industry, accompanied by strategic case studies from innovative labs succeeding with their responses to these trends. Wednesday’s plenary session features expert speakers explaining important new diagnostic technologies—such as artificial intelligence solutions for labs—and emerging models for how clinical laboratory and pathology testing services are being used across the spectrum of healthcare settings.
Following lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Executive War College’s renowned breakout sessions take place. Essentially, the speakers are lab leaders from first-mover and early-adopter labs, pathology groups, and genetic testing labs. The topics of their presentations cover the full range activities that happen daily in labs. Some examples include: specimen collection in PSCs, courier and logistics, managing point-of-care-testing in multi-hospital health systems, core lab innovations, workflow advances in microbiology and genetic testing/gene sequencing, coding/billing/collections of lab test claims.
Industry Expert Panels
Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons are when hard-hitting panels are presented that give you access to the lab industry’s experts in critical areas of lab management. Regular panel topics include: Washington Watch with lobbyists from such organizations as ACLA, NILA, CAP, ASCP; Regulatory/Complianc/Legal with nationally-recognized attorneys specializing in these matters; Managed Care Contracting with provider network managers from some of the nation’s major health insurance corporations; and the IVD Manufacturers Panel, featuring insiders who work regularly with the global IVD firms. The value of these panels to you is the ability to see, hear, and interact with the four or five experts serving on each panel. This is direct access you cannot obtain anywhere else during the year.
Clinical Laboratory and Pathology Mergers & Acquisitions Workshop
Tuesday afternoon, after lunch, Executive War College presents its unique “Clinical Laboratory, Pathology, and Diagnostics Workshop.” Over the four hours of this program, panels consisting of lab buyers, lab owners and sellers, attorneys, investors, and M&A experts discuss latest developments in the lab/diagnostics M&A sector. This feature debuted at our 2008 conference and is now in it’s 16th year. For lab owners preparing to expand or sell their labs, this is a must-attend event.
Two-Hour Roundtable Discussions
Each year’s conference hosts several two-hour roundtable discussions that allow senior lab executives to come together to share current developments, learn best practices, and build a network of their peers doing the same job. These roundtables serve Chief Financial Officers (CFOs), Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Chief Compliance Officers, Chief Sales/Marketing Directors (CSMs, CSOs), and Academic Pathology. What makes these both unique and valuable is that this is the only place and time in the United States when 30-40 lab CFOs, 40-50 lab CIOS, 40+ lab Compliance Officers, and 25-35 lab Sales/Marketing Executives can interact with people from other labs who do the same job and want to share best practices and related insights.
Academic Pathology Roundtable
For more than a decade, business-minded Chairs of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at major academic medical centers have gathered at the Executive War College to be part of the annual Academic Pathology Roundtable. This two-hour session is now a recognized opportunity to learn what is working, what is not, while networking with their peers to develop useful collaborations and advance the value delivered by their respective academic pathology departments.
High-Energy Networking Opportunities
Everyone attending the Executive War College benefits from the rich networking experience at the event. Receptions take place at the end of each day and are well-attended. Each day’s lunch is conducted to encourage conversation at every table. Breakfasts, morning breaks, and afternoon breaks are schedule so as to foster more conversations and valuable new friendships. In recent years, attendees have increased their use of the Executive War College’s meeting app to communicate with other participants, set up meetings, and interact with speakers.
Special Events by Benefactors and Sponsors
Each year, a limited number of high-quality companies participate at Corporate Benefactors. In this role, they organize learning sessions that happen each morning during the management master classes. The topics and speakers at these sessions have valuable perspectives designed to advance success of labs. Several Corporate Benefactors will also offer post-reception activities at the end of each day.
