EWC 2025 Conference Recap
Recap 1: Laying the Foundation for Lab 2.0: The Direct-to-Consumer Opportunity
As labs look to expand in non-traditional diagnostics markets, one growing trend is Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) lab testing. At Executive War College 2025, Patrick Schaffer, Chief Business Officer at Lifepoint Informatics and Dave Pellegore Director of IT at MaineHealth/NorDx presented what, at first glance, appears to be an overnight success story in launching their DTC program. But behind the scenes, it was a calculated, multi-year journey that could offer a blueprint for how regional labs can enter the DTC market and thrive.
Recap 2: How Interoperability and Cloud Platforms Are Powering Clinical Lab 2.0
The clear narrative at EWC this year is that labs that have implemented integrated systems are better positioned to take on the Clinical Lab 2.0 model and deliver greater value. The shift toward consolidated and cloud-based IT platforms with robust interoperability enables labs to eliminate paper-based workflows, enhance productivity, and play a central role in expanding and delivering better patient outcomes. Here, we recap three sessions from EWC 2025 that showcased how leading labs and technology partners are turning this vision into reality.
Recap 3: Opportunities for Labs in Urgent Care Networks in the Clinical Lab 2.0 Era
At Executive War College 2025, the theme of Clinical Lab 2.0 called for laboratories to expand beyond the traditional business model and consider new care models. As healthcare pivots toward value-based, patient-centric delivery, labs are uniquely positioned to collaborate with urgent care centers and freestanding emergency departments, bringing diagnostics closer to patients while driving new revenue streams.
Executive War College 2025 Roundup: An Extraordinary Time
May 15, 2025 U.S. HealthTek
There is no doubt about it: The 30th gathering of the Executive War College was an enlightening, fruitful – and even a little emotional as we recognized and celebrated Robert Michel and the impact he and his team has made in the industry. Record numbers, including both new and old faces, gathered in New Orleans on Monday, April 28, at the lab industry’s meeting-of-the-minds to learn from each other, share ideas, and express opinions of our life’s work during these equal parts exciting and volatile times.
Speaking of fresh faces, the U.S. HealthTek team descended on the most important conference of our industry with a team that included a few ourselves. Our VP of Marketing, Jamie Papp, is far from new to the industry, but he joined our team in November. Our VP of Technical Operations, Nick Stainback, also has nearly two decades in the business, but has been with us just under a year. Also joining Bryan Firestone and myself were our good friends Karen Saldaña (COO), Vicki DiFrancesco (Advisory Board Member), Lauren Sutton (Consultant), and Laurie Huard (Consultant). Also along was for the good times was our administrative assistant Sam Bender and marketing director Kevin Mitchell. We came ready, willing, and more than able, and I am proud and pleased to say our organization certainly took our own big slice of success from the conference.
