In addition to a wide-ranging array of many clinical lab and pathology management topics at the 29th Executive War College, we will cover what you need to know about the adoption of digital pathology, which each day becomes more entrenched in your thinking as a leader in your organization.
A full day workshop entitled “Breaking Pathology’s Glass Side” will follow up the main program and help pathologists and their practice administrators answer the important question of when to implement digital pathology. However, we also haven’t forgotten to address this brave, new world during the main program, too.

Abels will also participate as part of a panel entitled, “Current State and Future Directions for Digital Pathology, from Histology and Scanning to Pathologist Workflow and AI-Powered Analysis of Whole Slide Images.”

So why is the topic of digital pathology more important than ever?

“It has taken off. People are willing to implement it. Everybody is more or less starting to embrace it and to see the benefits of it,” said Abels of digital pathology last November in an interview with CAP Today’s Bob McGonnagle.
Although we haven’t yet seen mass adoption of DP, Abels tells CAP Today that clinical pathology’s actual implementation of the technology is right around corner. “I recognize there’s not much in the (clinical pathology) field yet. It’s about 10, 15 percent (implementation), but pharma and biotech companies, clinical research organizations, and big reference labs have already embraced it (digital pathology) and are working with it.”
The signs of the trend toward digital pathology are all there, Abels tells McGonnagle in this wide-ranging Q&A.
“More and more companies are working on this. I’m working with the FDA, and there is more and more involvement from the FDA, which is eager to move this field too,” Abels said. “There is more collaboration, and last week the FDA reached out to me to ask for the direction on what they need to do to speed this up. That’s fantastic to hear.”
