James Pepoon
James Pepoon currently serves as the Division Administrator of Moffitt Cancer Center’s esteemed Pathology Department and provides strategic leadership and oversight across a breadth of critical functions. Responsible for guiding Moffitt Clinical Laboratory and Pathology Services, encompassing clinical, anatomic, molecular, blood banking, esoteric, and clinical test development, Mr. Pepoon also oversees pathology physician practice administration and pathology translational research, ensuring the department operates at the forefront of innovation and excellence. Collaborating closely with the Chair of Pathology, Moffitt Medical Group, and physician leadership, he facilitates comprehensive support for faculty, residents, and fellows, fostering an environment conducive to clinical, academic, and research advancement. The Department of Pathology, under his stewardship, stands as one of the largest and most influential departments at Moffitt.
With over 2.5 decades of experience in pathology and the life science industry, Mr. Pepoon brings a wealth of expertise to his current role. His prior responsibilities include leading anatomic pathology services at prestigious institutions such as Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Tufts Medical Center, and supporting pathology services at The Dana Farber Cancer Institute. In addition to his professional commitments, Mr. Pepoon is deeply committed to global health equity, volunteering his time to support pathology-based initiatives in Malawi, Rwanda, and Haiti. His contributions extend to various national and global pathology committees, including the World Health Organization.
Mr. Pepoon’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters in Organizational Development & Leadership, reflecting his multifaceted approach to leadership in the healthcare sector. He is also recognized as a certified LEAN practitioner by GE Healthcare, harnessing principles of efficiency and optimization to drive continuous improvement. Furthermore, Mr. Pepoon’s distinguished service in the US Army Medical Corps culminated in an honorable discharge after six years of exemplary service.
